Rooney Mara: The (American) Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I've been skeptical of Rooney Mara playing the new Lisbeth Salander in Hollywood's take on the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo -- though I'll admit it's mostly due to aesthetics. But after seeing these latest images from this month's W Magazine, I'm pleasantly surprised that Hollywood seems to have retained Lisbeth's badass factor & hasn't overly femmed up the role.

Of course, I'm still partial to Sweden's Noomi Rapace (side-by-side 'hawk comparison).

THE WRINKLES OF THE CITY - Shanghai 2010

"Renowned French photographer JR, has made a name creating giant portraits of people from all facets of life, is an artist and activist is preparing a large scale project with an exhibition entitled “Wrinkles of the City”. The project seeks to capture the memories of a city through the testimony of its elderly inhabitants through interviews in which each person recalls the changes that their city has undergone. Then, each person’s portrait, printed in a monumental size is superimposed onto the facades of the city. The superimposition of the portraits and their wrinkles shows the city’s creases, highlights traces of history, sometimes even in a painful way for a city that has also lost certain aspects of its own youth."

Olek: Wall St. Bull & "Knitting Is For Pus***s"

Artist's Statement:
"A loop after a loop. Hour after hour my madness becomes crochet. Life and art are inseparable. The movies I watch while crocheting influence my work, and my work dictates the films I select. I crochet everything that enters my space. Sometimes it’s a text message, a medical report, found objects. There is the unraveling, the ephemeral part of my work that never lets me forget about the limited life of the art object and art concept. What do I intend to reveal? You have to pull the end of the yarn and unravel the story behind the crochet.

My work changes from place to place. I studied the science of culture. With a miner’s work ethic, I long to delve deeper and deeper into my investigations. My art was a development that took me away from industrial, close-minded Silesia, Poland. It has always sought to bring color and life, energy, and surprise to the living space. My goal is to produce new work and share it with the public. I intend to take advantage of living in NYC with various neighborhoods and, with my actions, create a feedback to the economic and social reality in our community."

Robert De Niro x Hedi Slimane

Robert De Niro, photographed by Hedi Slimane. (You'd think De Niro was in the middle of shooting a movie based on Bernie Madoff..)

Steven Tyler: SWOON

Patiently awaiting Steven Tyler's debut on American Idol. I don't even normally watch that show, and while I think he's stooping a bit, still excited to see him on TV. I remember the pre-YouTube days when I'd sit in front of my computer waiting 30 minutes for a 45-second Aerosmith video clip to download. That's called devotion, borderline obsession. I still think he's such a dreamboat. Judge me.
