Dizzee Rascal & my strip-club experience

So I went to my first strip club the other week (it was my friend's birthday..for some reason they were convinced I'd thoroughly enjoy this experience..). Anyway, I went to some uber-classy place in Portland called Sassy's, where apparently the prerequisite to nekkid dancing are hair extensions & tattoos. Lots of tattoos. (So I guess that means I'll never get to shake it there..awww, shucks!)

I was quite shocked to discover that the women dance ass-naked. As in, no bikini or thong (you know, like in the movies). I found the dancing to be quite demeaning to women, though the tunes were really quite great. So great, in fact, that I proceed to almost get myself thrown out by security for Shazaming a lil diddy entitled, "Fix Up, Look Sharp" by Dizzee Rascal. Shoving my spacephone out in front of the speakers (& completely ignoring the stripper who was apparently dancing right next to the speakers), I soon found myself surrounded by security guards, whilst someone yells over the microphone, "LADIES & GENTLEMEN, PLEASE PUT ALL CELL PHONES & CAMERAS AWAY". Feeling the need to explain myself, I decide to wave my spacephone around and reply, "NO, NO Look look! I swear, I'm just using Shazam! The song is phenomenal I just HAVE to get the name of it!!", which only causes the Security to look angrier and meaner. I took that as a cue to leave. But at least I left having discovered this gem of a dance track:

Gaga Weekly:

Introducing Lady Gaga's alter-ego, Jo Calderone (pictured on the cover of 'Vogue Hommes Japan 5', hitting newsstands September 10th).
Having spent the last year or so dressed as a boy who dresses like a girl, it's about time Lady Gaga is now dressed (simply) as a boy. You know, normal straight-up drag. I'm intrigued, and I can't wait to see if/how far she'll take her new Jo Calderone persona.

Pakistani Tent City

Southern Pakistan - tent camp set up for Pakistanis displaced by flooding.

Scanners - "Lowlife"

Ah, so beautiful. Definitely a top 10 to the soundtrack of my 2009 year of misery, but I still love it. I'm used to spazz-dancing around to Steve Aoki's remix, but right now I'm much preferring the original.
Lowlife - Scanners by user5543978

I know you're not ready to live
Are you ready to die
Under your skin under your skin under skin
Is a regular guy

You lost your hold
You didn't know
This is a low

Everything that was important to me
Didn't matter to you
And you didn't try didn't try to get in bed with me
When I turn my back you were with someone new

You lost your soul
You didn't know
This is a low, this is a low

This is low this is low life
A world where people walk by night
So by day an average man
But night time brings the creature from the can
Sometimes you scream out loud
But there's always safety from the crowd
You're not alone you're not alone you know

This is a low, this is a low, this is a lonely time a lonely time

Its like my skin, turned inside out
And there's no silver here in this cloud
It's like a love that's turning sour
Its letting go
This is a low

Rachael Yamagata - Worn Me Down

Not the greatest video, nor song. But I still love it because I know it so well.
Gone, she's gone
How do you feel about it?
That's what I thought,
you're real torn up about it
And I wish you the best,
but I could do without it
and I will because you've worn me down
Oh, I will because you've worn me down

Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did everything to please
but you can't stop thinking about her
no, you can't stop thinking about her

And you're wrong, you're wrong
I'm not overreacting
Something is off
Why don't we ever believe ourselves?
and I, oh I, I feel that word for you
and I will, because you've worn me down
oh I will, because you've worn me down

Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did everything to please
but you can't stop thinking about her
No, you can't stop thinking about her

She's so pretty, she's so damn right
but I'm so tired of thinking about her again tonight

worn me down like a road
Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did everything to please you,
Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told me to do
but you can't stop thinking about her
no, you can't stop thinking about her

(everything you told me to do)

No, you can't stop thinking about her

Jordan x Cole Haan

I really do love some of Cole Haan's footwear - particularly their wingtips and boots. Here are the results of a recent collaboration between Cole Haan and Jordan (or more likely, Jordan's creative director Mark "Laserman" Smith). The collab was for the Atmos store takeover in Harlem, as part of the World Basketball Festival celebration that's currently underway in NYC. While I'd never actually wear any of these shoes, I do think they're pretty sweet, especially the leather-tattooing.

MGMT - "Kids"

Random video to one of my all-time favorite songs. The song reminds me of an ex -- or more specifically, a kind of selfishness that I didn't know actually existed. Humans can be pretty disgusting. Who knows, I'm sure MGMT was quite high when creating this gem. Either way, it's a great dance track that I still love rockin' out to.

You were a child
Crawling on your knees toward it
Making momma so proud
But your voice was too loud
We like to watch you laughing
Picking insects off of plants
No time to think of consequences

Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanted to be haunted
Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanted to be haunted

The water is warm
But it's sending me shivers
A baby is born
Crying out for attention
The memories fade
Like looking through a fogged mirror
Decision to decisions are made and not bought
But I thought this wouldn't hurt a lot
I guess not

Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanted to be haunted
Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanted to be haunted

Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry

Looking forward to seeing this in Brooklyn this weekend. My friend Alice has been helping this film come to life all summer, but failed to mention the name & subject of the film, and how radass it looks! Brief synopsis: documentary on iconic American tattoo artist Norman Collins. Can't wait!
